Des Fagg

Broker
Townsville and Surrounds
"Communication is extremely important for both vendors and buyers to ensure they feel well informed at all times as to how their transaction is ticking along. When I see people succeed in their business ventures, it gives me great satisfaction to know ResortBrokers has been a part of that."

Since joining ResortBrokers in 2014, Des Fagg has distinguished himself with one of the most enviable sales records in Far North Queensland. He has sold 81 properties worth over $115 million.

Based in Townsville, Des has had enormous success across the board selling motel, management rights and caravan parks throughout the entire Far North Queensland region, from Townsville to Mackay and out west to Mt Isa.

His recent notable sales include the management rights to Mariners North Apartments and Allure Apartments, both in Townsville; the freehold passive of Townsville City Motel; the freehold going concern of Tropical Beach Caravan Park in Bowen; and the freehold going concern of The Park Motel in Charters Towers.

Des has worked closely with vendors and buyers throughout both boom and bust markets, from the mining downturn to the upturn in Queensland’s tourism economy. Regardless of prevailing market conditions, he believes the fundamentals of achieving a successful sale remain constant: having a strong set of financial statements and a service-focused broker who keeps clients constantly updated.

“Communication is extremely important for both vendors and buyers to ensure they feel well informed at all times as to how their transaction is ticking along,” says Des. “When I see people succeed in their business ventures, it gives me great satisfaction to know ResortBrokers has been a part of that. Having the support, strength and resources of a people-focused company behind me enables me to help my clients achieve their goals.”

Des attributes much of his success to building long-term relationships and being genuinely interested in people. “I really enjoy talking with people throughout my region,” he says. “It’s just a matter of getting to know people and to be able to talk to them on their own level.”

Born in Gin Gin, Des was a sugarcane farmer before “retiring” at the age of 55. Not satisfied with being idle, Des and his wife bought a management rights business in Townsville, then a caravan park at Googarra Beach. He says life as a farmer has given him resilience, resourcefulness and the ability to handle the unexpected — skills he finds valuable in the accommodation sector.

“There’s always an element in primary production of not knowing what might be around the corner,” says Des. “My experience in life has taught me to overcome challenges and to always do your best to succeed.”
