Retro Coolangatta Hotel and rock ‘n’ roll bar for sale - ResortBrokers

One of the Gold Coast’s most iconic hotels which is favoured by Instagrammers from all around Australia for its pink, retro furnishings and flavour and rock ‘n’ roll bar, is for sale by ResortBrokers Gold Coast Broker Greg James.

ResortBrokers Gold Coast Broker Greg James is inviting Expressions of Interest for The Pink Hotel and Eddie’s Grub House in Coolangatta.

Fun fact: Eddie’s Grub House was formerly a Chinese restaurant which featured in Australian cult hit movie Muriel’s Wedding, while The Pink Hotel has attracted guests such as director Baz Luhrmann and musician Davey Lane of Aussie band You Am I.

Mr James says properties of this calibre and historical value – The Pink Hotel opened in 1963 as The Ocean View Motel and was restored to its retro glory in 2018 – are incredibly rare. While no official records of this property exist before the 60s, it is believed it opened as early as the 1940s.

“This iconic business, along Coolangatta’s main streets, boasts 17 individually decorated rooms in a mix of Scandinavian and mid-century styling. The risqué pink painting, orange furnishings and neon-lit poetry on the walls adds to its retro renaissance,” he says.

“Eddie’s Grub House is your classic 1960-style rock ‘n’ roll bar with live music and award-winning burger joint which instantly transports guests back to those Gold Coast holidays of yesteryear.

“Old-school hotels and motels are making a huge comeback around Australia because of that sense of nostalgia they offer, and nowhere is this more acute than on the Gold Coast where many Australians spent their childhood holidays in similar properties.

“Here you have an outstanding asset, in an unbeatable location, along Coolangatta’s main street and overlooking the ocean, minutes from the world-class beaches of Greenmount, Coolangatta, Kirra, Rainbow Bay and Snapper Rocks.”

The Pink Hotel Director Samuel Diklich says the property is one of the last of its kind standing on the southern Gold Coast.

“When we were renovating we took our inspiration from old-style American hotels and wanted that Palm Springs feel,” he says.

“With 17 rooms you can really focus on the people. It is not just another box. This building is one of a kind as most buildings these days are just so symmetrical.

“I love all the little nooks and the weird shapes. It just gives it so much character.”
